Background
Applied research is of paramount importance for any organization seeking continuous improvement of its performance and looking for evidence-based solutions that are value-for-money and fit-for-purpose. In spite of this fact, research is considered a path less travelled by NGOs, particularly those working in the health sector in conflict-affected and resource-limited settings. Postulated causes include lack of required competencies and absence of the culture and enabling environment for research. Save-a-life initiative (SALI) has recognized this gap and therefore made applied research one of its major endeavors. For this end, SALI is going to build partnership with academic institutions. We now have an MOA with the University of Khartoum.
Major objectives of SALI research
1. To introduce the research culture in the sector of NGOs
2. To build the capacity of NGOs to conduct high-quality research
3. To conduct research projects for other NGOs
4. To contribute to the overall research capability in the academic and professional sectors of the public and private sectors
